凯利·乔·菲尔普斯（Kelly Joe Phelps）在华盛顿州萨姆纳（Sumner）长大，他是一个蓝领农业小镇他从父亲那里学到乡村歌曲，还有鼓和钢琴。他十二岁开始弹吉他。
