碎南瓜乐团（英文：The Smashing Pumpkins）是一支来自于美国芝加哥的另类摇滚乐团，成军于1988年，成员为比利·寇根（Billy Corgan，主唱、吉他手、钢琴）、井叶吉伸（吉他手、主唱）、达西·沃兹奇（D'arcy Wretzky，贝斯手、主唱）、吉米·钱柏林（Jimmy Chamberlin，鼓手、打击乐器）。乐团作品的风格涵盖了油渍摇滚、重金属、梦幻流行乐、哥特摇滚、古典等。虽然不是一支纯粹的试验性乐团，但是碎南瓜敢于不断创新，挑战不同音乐形式的作风使得它从同时代的乐团中脱颖而出。截至2000年乐团解散为止，碎南瓜在全球的唱片销量大约在3千万张，是一支名副其实的成功乐团。

Smashing Pumpkins在1989年于芝加哥组成四人摇滚乐团，乐团创作灵魂的主唱Billy Corgan说学弹写样样精通，兼之以一副尖哑瘦削、仿佛被伫立于月夜树梢的乌鸦附身般的邪异唱腔，形成乐团最深刻的风格印记；日裔美籍的吉他手James Iha则负责与Billy Corgan并肩构筑一道道诡谲的迷离音墙；而闪耀着一头亮眼白发的女生D'Arcy却总是出神地拨弄著贝斯，有时兴起也会哼上两句；加上Jimmy Chamberlin的扁平鼓声，为全团打下躁烈中不失丰厚的节奏基底。

他们分别在1991年、1993年及1995年推出的专辑Gish、Siamese Dream、Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness，都是一张比一张成熟精进的顶尖之作，将乐团可哀伤可迷幻可凶暴、睥睨群雄的多重摇滚霸气拱至颠峰。然而在1998年时，鼓手Jimmy Chamberlin因药物问题离团。在黄金组合破碎的状态下，录制了工业电子与苍白忧悒并容的Adore专辑。千禧年前Adore专辑宣传行程告一段落的那时候，鼓手Jimmy Camberlin重新归队，全新大碟MACHINA/The Machines Of God旋即发行。这张完整展现‘另类摇滚的救世主’大团风范的作品，重释了他们先前的摇滚力道，也召告了他们全新的音乐空间。Billy Corgan说：“当我们摇滚的时期结束了，它就是结束了，因为我们觉得已经无路可出，看来我们踢到了一面墙。Adore专辑攀过了那面墙，却掉入了流行的泥沼。Jimmy归队后又把我们带回了摇滚的可能发展空间里，尽管这不是我们预计要走的方向，也没打算采取摇滚走向，但我们看到了火花在闪耀。”

在新作MACHINA/The Machines Of God即将完成之时，女贝斯手D'Arcy却选择与战友道别。黄金组合走入历史，崭新局面翩然降临，由前Hole贝斯女Melissa Aur Der Maur入替。Billy Corgan表示会Melissa一个音都没弹就给了她这份工作的理由，是在于她以情感来诠释的能力，还有她对音乐整体感的回应。除了新力军的加入之外，老团员Jimmy的重新归队，也为专辑带来全新的契机。专辑再次延请曾为他们制作全球超白金专辑Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness的知名制作人Flood与Billy Corgan共同制作，深蕴丰沛的不再单限于Adore中电子合成器编辑的鼓击，在神似New Order唯美新浪潮中，Billy Corgan依然“稚气且邪气”的迷人嗓音与嗡鸣的“非凡式”吉他缓飙魅音，爆裂出世纪末了天人之间的情愫。

Smashing Pumpkins成军近10年来，他们对于音乐演绎的能力让每一首歌听起来更邪恶，或更神圣，或更具各种表情。每一张专辑都是四个人深深地向下潜的结果，有些是安安静静的音乐、有些则是更诗意且不充满暴力郁闷的天赖，藉著这些作品所创造出的典范来诠释更广、更远的意境。虽然有人表示Adore专辑已经临近Smashing Pumpkins一个完成的阶段，主唱Billy Corgan也发布将于2000年底解散乐团的消息，但Smashing Pumpkins始终都秉持着他们以往‘重摇滚乐团’的形象，带领歌迷超越了‘重’的境界，让歌迷在听到如机关枪般哒哒响声的音乐同时，也在歌曲中注入了情感的能量。
